*SRVL 1020 - Introduction to Service Learning

Introduction to Service Learning is a course with field-based experiential learning using community partners as an instructional strategy and required as part of the course. The course will give students a direct experience with issues in the curriculum and with ongoing efforts to analyze and solve problems in the community. A key element in the course is the opportunity students have to both reflect in a classroom setting on their service experiences and to apply what they are learning in real world settings. The course will model the idea that giving something back to the community is an important college outcome and that working with community partners is good preparation for citizenship, work, and life. Students are required to complete 30 hours of community service.
