Continuing Education Information and Policies

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Northeast State awards Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to recognize and to record the efforts of individuals who successfully complete continuing education courses, workshops, seminars, and specially formatted education offerings. The recording of the CEU on the college transcript provides a permanent record of participation in non-degree coursework. Continuing Education Units may not be applied toward any Northeast State degree or credit certificate.

The Continuing Education Unit is defined as 10 contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education course activity under the sponsorship and capable direction of a qualified instructor. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are computed on the basis of one CEU for each 10 hours of contact. Units are recorded to one decimal point. Thus, a student enrolled in a non-degree activity which meets for a total of 12 hours would earn 1.2 CEUs.

The Admissions and Records Office maintains all CEU records.

Registration - A student may register for any continuing education course or activity by submitting the Registration Form for Continuing Education Classes, Seminars and Workshops by the course registration date.

Admission Requirements - Participants taking continuing education courses are not required to follow the same admissions procedures as those enrolled in credit courses. Participants will not be permitted to register until the following encumbrances have been satisfactorily addressed:

Fees or other financial obligations owed to the college;
Overdue library books or materials; or
Disciplinary action by the college.

Fees and Refunds - Continuing education course fees for seminars, workshops, and instructor led classes are refundable if the participant sends an email cancelling the registration to Workforce Solutions (workforce@NortheastState.edu) before the registration deadline listed on the course announcement form. Registrants may send an instructor approved substitute. Refunds will not be granted once a scheduled class has begun.

Northeast State will refund continuing education online course fees to a participant who sends a cancellation email to Workforce Solutions (workforce@NortheastState.edu) prior to starting the class. Refunds will not be granted once an online class has begun.

Class Cancellation/Postponement - Workforce Solutions reserves the right to cancel or postpone a class before the first meeting.

The office may also limit enrollment, split or combine classes, change location, and reassign qualified instructors when it is necessary. Charges for cancelled classes will be automatically refunded.

Cancellation/Postponement of Individual Class Sessions - If an instructor of a continuing education course must cancel a class session, he or she must notify all participants and the office of Workforce Solutions. The instructor is responsible for arranging a makeup session.

College Closings - Unless otherwise noted, continuing education courses, workshops, and seminars will follow the published campus holiday schedule and any announced closures.

Registration Closing Dates - Registration and payment by the date stated on the continuing education course announcement is required to ensure enrollment. Class enrollment must meet the minimum number of participants required to cover all course expenses. The closing date for registration is stated on the course announcement. Classes that do not meet the minimum enrollment by the registration deadline are subject to cancellation. Unless indicated, registration remains open until the first class session.

Parking - Continuing education students are subject to the traffic and parking regulations established by the college and must obtain and display parking permits.

Notification of Enrollment - Participants are considered registered for a course when they submit a registration form or register online. Participants will receive a confirmation email when the registration form is received.
