General Education Requirements
Note: All courses must be from the Approved Courses for General Education courses for each category listed in the General Education section of this catalog. Additional courses may be required to overcome deficiencies in English, mathematics, and reading. General Courses
- EDUC 1030 - ♦College and Lifelong Learning Credits: 3
- ENGL 1010 - ♦Composition I Credits: 3
- ENGL 1020 - ♦Composition II Credits: 3
- SPCH 1010 - ♦Fundamentals of Speech Communication Credits: 3
or other approved speech/communication course - Humanities and/or Fine Arts (at least one course in literature) Credits: 9
- Behavioral/Social Sciences - Credits: 6 *
- History - Select two from approved general education history courses Credits: 6
- Natural Sciences - Select two from approved general education natural science courses Credits: 8
- MATH 1910 - ♦Calculus I Credits: 4
Students who are not prepared for calculus will also need some or all of the following courses based on placement testing: MATH 1100, MATH 1710, and MATH 1720.
* Students who wish to pursue a concentration in actuarial science available at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga; Middle Tennessee State University; or Tennessee State University should complete ECON 2010 and 2020 to fulfill the requirement in behavioral/social sciences.

At some universities, foreign language may be required in certain programs that lead to the Bachelor of Science Degree. Complete information regarding foreign language requirements at each university may be found on the transfer and articulation websites of the Tennessee Board of Regents and the University of Tennessee System. Community college students are encouraged to be familiar with foreign language requirements at the universities and, if applicable, complete the requirements before transferring.
