Pre-Allied Health (A.S. Degree)

This is an Associate of Science (AS) degree program in University Parallel: Pre-Allied Health that will provide a pathway for students who are currently applying to one or more of the health professions A.A.S. degree programs including:

Students will select the A.S. degree in Pre-Allied Health program of study as their initial major and begin taking those general education courses that meet the prerequisite course requirements to be considered for admission to the health professions A.A.S. degree program of their choice. If the student is admitted to the health professions A.A.S. degree program of their choice, their major is changed to that program and the student continues to take courses in the discipline-specific curriculum. If the student is not admitted to the health professions A.A.S. degree program of their choice, they are advised of the following options:

  1. Continue taking courses in the Pre-Allied Health curriculum plan and graduate with an A.S. degree and transfer to a university.
  2. Change their major to another area of study.

Students applying to any A.A.S. Health Professions programs should consult the admission and course requirements for their program of choice and select qualifying courses.

Note: All courses must be from the Approved Courses for General Education  courses for each category listed in the General Education section of this catalog.

* If applying to the A.A.S. programs in Nursing or Paramedic HRPR 1000 is not required for acceptance.
** If applying to the A.A.S. programs in Cardiovascular Technology, Dental Assisting, Medical Laboratory Technology, or Surgical Technology you should take ADMN 1306 - Medical Terminology I . Cardiovascular Technology program advisors suggest students delay taking ADMN 1306 until accepted into the program.
*** If applying to the A.A.S. programs in Cardiovascular Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Nursing, or Surgical Technology you should take BIOL 2230 - ♦Introduction to Microbiology .
^If applying to the A.A.S. program in Paramedic, COMM 2025, MATH 1530, and the electives are not required for acceptance.
~If applying to the A.A.S. program in Radiologic Technology, COMM 2025 and the electives are not required for acceptance.
